Toys of Terror

Someone attacked India’s Jammu Air Station Base. Indian media is of course already pointing the finger at Pakistan, or specifically Pakistan-sponsored terrorist outfits. Some reports suggested Lashkar-e-Taiba had a hand in the attack, which led to minor injury to two Indian Air Force personnel. The attack occurred in the early morning hours of June 28th. Two devices, characterized as small, or “mini” drones, dropped some explosive material on structures within the air base.

It will be interesting to see what develops from this. LeT (Lashkar-e-Taiba) has been relatively quite, and analysts have really felt like since the 2019 Pulwama, Jaish-e-Mohammad really emerged as the face of Islamic terror in the Kashmir theater. Of course, there isn’t any real evidence that I have seen yet presented that actually points to LeT. You have to take Indian media reports with more than a handful of loone; some of them downright lose their minds when stuff like this happens, calling for everything short of a full-scale invasion of West Punjab because of some toy drones dropping a small package of RDX from the sky.

All that to say, it seems likely that it is a Pakistani-affiliated group. Given that the international border is about 14km from the air base, its possible it came from over the line. Its also possible it came from nearer inside Jammu. My best guess is whoever did it was attempting a proof of concept. The Indians will have to look for some kind of drone/warm detection and defense system. In the meantime, they have outlawed the use of all drones, including toy ones, from the Rajouri border district. Bakwas.
